It is with deep sorrow that we heard of Colonel CHATEAU JOBERT's death.

Colonel CHATEAU JOBERT, DSO (aka CONAN) escaped from occupied France and joined the 13 Demi-Brigade de Legion Etrangère. Later, he was trained as a paratrooper in Ringway, and became the first C.O. of 3 S.A.S. / 3 RCP (Regiment de Chasseurs parachutistes). Under his command, 3SAS undertook a successful harassing campaign behind German lines in France.

Some elements of 3RCP / 3SAS jumped with 6ABN on DDay to serve as interpreters and FAC parties.

After WW2, CONAN is the founder of the French Jump school in Pau. He later fought in Indo-China where he discovered the western world's new enemy and became an expert in counter-guerrilla warfare.

In November 1956, as CO of the 2eme Regiment de parachutistes Coloniaux, Colonel CHATEAU JOBERT led the airborne assault during the joint Franco-British raid on Suez.


 Laurent, Vincent and myself served in 3 RCP.  3RCP was the only unit in the French orbat to keep an english motto : "Who Dares Wins".

A true hero and a leader to follow for all paras.
