I cannot tell you much about my father as like a lot of good Para’s they didn’t talk much about their war time experiences to their families.

 

As you can see by the dates, He joined as a boy soldier, at the Royal Artilleries Winchester Barracks.

He completed his jumps course at Ringway in 1942

He took part in several campaigns.

 

He was blown up twice. Once in North Africa and once in the Black Forrest

At Arnhem he dropped in the first wave on the 17th Sept at Wolfhaze At that time he was attached to a recon squad.

In the famous picture of the Sunflower he is the one on the extreme left as you look at it.
